About the coffee shop
Our coffee shop – more star, less bucks – is The Open Door’s outward face to the general public in Morningside, Edinburgh. It is open to anyone: we champion diversity.
Of course, many people who use our services have a variety of support needs, so you may find having a cuppa is a different experience to that of your usual coffee shop. You‘ll see first-hand how our volunteer staff do more than just serve coffee: they provide friendship to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. Volunteers are encouraged to spend as much time as possible interacting with customers, listening to their concerns and where appropriate offering support or information. We have free WI-FI and what is more, our prices are kept intentionally low to promote inclusion.
We have a range of hot and cold drinks, hot and cold food including stovies, sandwiches, rolls and toasties. We also stock cakes, biscuits and other snacks. But our most popular dish is Diane’s famous home made soup! Voted 10/10 by our customers. At only £2.20 a bowl it’s a must do.
