The Open Door’s social clubs and support services for older people bring care, companionship, wellbeing and love to over 70 frail and lonely elderly people every week.
The Good Neighbour Club – Tuesdays 10.30am – 3pm
The Good Neighbour Club meets every Tuesday to enjoy a range of activities from seated swing dancing to sing-a-long sessions, mind-stretching quizzes to musical performances, indoor floor games to arts and crafts. There is also plenty of time to chat at the club over tea, coffee and biscuits. Members are mostly 85 years plus.
“I really enjoy my time at The Open Door. Everyone is so friendly and I haven’t laughed so much in years, I feel less and less alone as the weeks go on”
The Thursday Club – Thursdays 10.30am – 2.30pm
The Thursday Club is a registered day care service for older people who need support to get out and about to meet others. Members are supported by a team of staff and volunteers to take part in a range of group activities at the centre, tailored to their individual interests, abilities and strengths. Music and singing are always popular! This group is registered with the Care Inspectorate and funded by Health and Social Care, who set the eligibility criteria.
The Senior Men’s Group – Fridays 1pm – 4pm
This is a drop-in group for men who are young at heart. Members gather together to share common interests, listen to talks, tell stories, go on outings, eat lunch – and simply enjoy the company of their male peers. Members are mostly 75 years plus.
The Saturday Break – Saturdays 10am – 3pm
The Saturday Break is a registered day care service for people with a diagnosis of dementia. Members are supported by a team of staff and volunteers to take part in multi-sensory activities and interact with others. There is always lots of laughter at the club. Families also benefit from a break at the weekend from looking after their loved ones. This group is registered with the Care Inspectorate and funded by Health and Social Care, who set the eligibility criteria.
